JOSEPH G. V. HOFBAUER, age 79, of Plain City passed away Tuesday evening, March 29, 2016 at his home. Born April 29, 1936 above Tedrick’s Hardware Store downtown Plain City to the late Joseph V. & Anna (Kress) Hofbauer.

Joe was a US Army veteran during the Korean and Vietnam Wars (1959 – 1965) with the 7th Infantry Division.

He is a retired photographer who worked for the Scott Seed Company, Marysville for 9 years, Marysville Journal Tribune for 9 years and 28 years of service as a Graphics Arts Layout & Design Supervisor for the Adjutant General’s Office for the State of Ohio.

Joe was a very active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Plain City. “Founder” of the Plain City Historical Society; member of the Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens and Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens Mortgage Board, earning a “Golden Star” rating for the best upkeep of the property in Central Ohio.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary (Kungis) Hofbauer, whom he married September 28, 1963 in the St. James The Less Catholic Church. Joe is also survived by his two daughters, Mary Catherine (Steven) Rice and Julia Ann Hofbauer; two grandchildren, Edward and Renee Rice; aunt and uncle, Marlies and Welhelm Hofbauer and numerous cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6–8 PM Friday with Rosary at 8 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 140 West Avenue, Plain City. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Plain City with Celebrant Fr. Joseph J. Trapp II officiating. Burial in Forest Grove Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.
